Palm Springs Events for December 2007- Christmas in Palm Springs

The Christmas season has arrived in Palm Springs. I love this time of year in the Desert.  The holiday lights illuminate the Dowtown corridor, and there is a nip in the air that’s quite exhilerating.  People here are getting into the holiday spirit, and going into full throttle shopping mode.   Last night, my office at Scott Lyle Realtors had a tree trimming party to get ready for the Holiday Lights parade this weekend.  If you have never been to this event, it is a sight to see.  There will be 89 entries in this year’s parade.  Here is a list of events to enjoy during the month of December in Palm Springs:

  • Dec 1- Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade- This annual holiday tradition is entering its 16th year.  For more information, go to the website:  Parades of Palm Springs.com  The parade starts at 5:45pm
  • Dec 1-  An Irish Christmas- After the parade, head on over to the Annenberg Theatre to see “An Irish Christmas”.  Enjoy the brilliance of Irish dance, holiday style, with Riverdance stars Darren Maguire and Maeve Croke.    The performance starts at 8pm.  For more information, click here.
  • Dec 2- Palm Springs Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony- Broadway and Film Star, Carol Channing, is this year’s celebrity tree lighter at the Annual Palm Springs Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony.  The lighting takes place at the top of Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, on Mt. San Jacinto.  The lighting will take place at 5:30pm.  For more information, click here
  • Dec 2- Palm Springs Opera Guild 24th Annual Vocal Competition- Celebrating its 24th year, the Palm Springs Opera Guild holds its annual Vocal competition.  Ten opera singers selected from more than fifty competitions in California, Nevada and Arizona will debut their voices at this thrilling recital.  For more information, click here.
  • Dec 6- Annual Walking Tour of Palm Springs Historic Inns-  This event gets more popular each year.  Take a elf-guided tour of Palm Springs Historic Inns, with maps handed at various tour locations including but not limited to Casa Coda, 175 S. Cahuilla Road and Palm Springs Art Museum, 101 Museum Drive. Bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” campaign.  For more information, call  760-320-9346  The tour goes from 5-8pm.
  • Dec 6- City of Palm Springs Holiday Concert- The Marine Corps Band from Twenty Nine Palms will perform this year’s Holiday Concert at the Palm Springs Convention Center.  The event starts at 7:30pm, and admission is free.  For complete information to get your “free tickets”, click here.
  • Dec 7-9 Palm Springs Classic Film Festival & Starfair- Classic Hollywood Stars and the movies they starred in can be seen at this year’s Classic Film Festival & Starfair.    Jane Russell (Gentleman Prefer Blondes), Lindsay Wagner (The Paper Chase), Patty McCormick (The Bad Seed), and many other celebrities will be on hand to sign autographs.  For more information on this event, click here.
  • Dec 8-9- Desert Arts Festival- Give the gift of art for the holidays at the Desert Arts Festival.  Preview contemporary and traditonal works from various artists at Frances Stevens Park from 10am-4pm.  For more information, call (818) 709-2907.  Frances Stevens Park is located at the corner of N. Palm Cyn Dr. & Alejo Rd.
  • Dec 13- John O’ Hurley Book Signing-  Seinfeld actor, John O’ Hurley, will be signing & discussing his new book “Before Your Dog Can Eat Your Homework, You Have To Do It” at the Peppertree Bookstore in Downtown Palm Springs.  The event will occur from 6:30-8:30pm.  For more information, click here.
  • Dec 15- Aqua Caliente Cultural Museum Singing The Birds, Bird Song & Dance Festival- Special event from the Aqua Caliente Cultural Museum, being performed at the Palm Springs Pavillion Theatre from 11am-8pm.  For more information, call 760-778-1079
